Newby Questions

This is my first year entering and I have a bunch of questions. We'll be entering (late as usual) as Bush League, so no water entry.

1. What do the Pit Crew do? I'm guessing they just ride their own bikes along with the sculpture throughout the race and help with water, sand, mud, pushing and pulling? Am I missing anything here?
2. I'm still getting confirmations for pilots and pit crew. Can I change pilots or pit crew between entering and actual race day? Assuming they would require a signed waiver, can I just bring that on race day, or is there a pilot/pit change deadline?
3. In the past I've seen a lot of folks following the sculptures on bikes and also dressed up. Do these folks all need to be registered as pit crew? We are thinking of have some kids (10yo and older) following along "in costume" with our sculpture at least in the beginning of the race. Can they just follow along as un-registered folks on bikes?
4. Are there any restrictions on pilots under 18yo?

OK, that's it for now. I'm sure I'll have more.

Hey Aaron.
This close to the race, I recommend you contact the race organizer directly. I'm assuming there is an e-mail address on the main web site. Have fun!

Here are answers to two of your questions from my understanding:

1. Every team has both pilots (who ride on the sculpture) and pit crew (who ride separately on bicycles or other, novel craft). The Pit Crew provide whatever support is necessary--repairs and spare parts, getting food, giving back rubs, shouting enthusiastically, etc. For non-ACE teams, pit crew can also help push and pull (especially at the sand and mud) or help the sculpture in and out of the water.

4. There are a few restrictions on racers under 18, described on the entry form and official rules. These include needing a notary on the form, and "at least one adult Pilot (over the age of 18 and having signed a Waiver of All Responsibility) must be on board Sculpture at all times while traveling the course." The complete rules are at http://kineticbaltimore.com/KSR/Rules.asp and the entry form is at http://kineticbaltimore.com/KSR/Enter.asp.

And here are two responses from Kinetic Mother Theresa:

2. They can change pilots and pit crew after registering their entry.
They will require signed waivers and contact info and should be in by 5 pm Friday before Race Day.

3. We do allow "entourage" or unregistered Racers in costumes who are on a kinetic vehicle and costume or kinetic tee shirt to ride in the coned lanes with the race at their own risk.
They cannot, though, participate in the challenges at the water, mud or sand.
